With a vote last Wednesday night of the Southern Door Fire Board, there are now two fire departments in Door County with chiefs named Vandertie. The board selected 35-year fire department veteran Gary Vandertie to lead the department that provides fire protection and emergency medical response services in the village and town of Forestville as well as the towns of Clay Banks and Nasewaupee. Vandertie replaces Chuck Cihlar, who is retiring after leading the department for the last several years. Next door to the Southern Door Fire Department territory, Curt Vandertie has been chief of the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department for most of the past decade. The fire board also approved the appointment of Troy Hicks to fill a vacancy on the board. Hicks is a resident of Clay Banks.
