Three Beloit residents were recognized Monday for their heroism in saving lives during an Oct. 12 house fire on Tenth Street. Brian Brewster, Savvas Mourtzis and Christine Rowlett were honored with the award from Beloit Fire Chief Brad Liggett at Monday night's Beloit City Council meeting. Brewster, Mourtzis and Rowlett are credited by the department for successfully saving the lives of the six residents of 1015 Tenth St. The three Beloiters said they had never met before the fateful autumn day. "This is a testament about this city and the people who live and work here," Liggett said. "The immediate action of these three heroes saved six lives in October...this is an enviable example of the impact our neighbors can have when we take selfless, unconditional action to make a difference in our community."
