Town of Richmond Chairman Jeff Karbash says the town's remote location likely contributed to how long it took to control a fire that destroyed a residential home Tuesday night. The town, which has a population just over 2,000, sits between several fire districts in Walworth County. Karbash says without a fire station of its own, fires can go on for an extended length of time before a unit arrives. "This has been a topic throughout Walworth county for quite some time now," Karbash said. The Whitewater Fire Department was first on the scene on Tuesday, but captain Ryan Dion says the time it takes for the department to get to the rural town can be detrimental.
