Ripping off car doors. Rescuing fallen firefighters. Climbing stories high on a ladder. For some local teenagers, the experiences have shown what it'd be like to become a firefighter - before even graduating high school. The students have participated in hours of training sessions as a part of the Town of Beloit Fire Department's "Youth Explorer Program," founded by firefighter/paramedic Casey Bellard about three years ago. The program is meant to help high school students discern if becoming a firefighter is a viable career for them. "I wish I was able to do this when I was a kid," Bellard said. Though he always knew he wanted to be a firefighter, Bellard said the ability to practice his skills earlier in life would've been beneficial.
