A Lake Delton firefighter has been upgraded from critical to stable condition after he was hit by a car while responding to a fatal crash on the interstate Saturday. The Lake Delton Fire Department said in a Facebook post that 39-year-old Joe Sabol was seriously injured in that crash when a car lost control and slid into the emergency scene along I-90, where he was responding to another fatal accident. The 13-year veteran firefighter was first listed as in critical condition Saturday but was upgraded Sunday, according to the Facebook post. Sabol’s wife, who is also a first responder, said in the Facebook post, “Since my husband’s injury, we have been getting a lot of offers of help, and what I would really like is your help to remember that the men and women working out there have families too who need them to come home.”
