VIDEO: A police officer and a 5-year-old girl were among three people hospitalized and several others treated on the scene after an Independence Day fire on the city's north side. Firefighters called to a home near North 41st Street and West Sheridan Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. were met with heat and heavy smoke, Battalion Erich Roden said. The child was unresponsive when removed from the second floor of the home and taken to Children's Hospital. A police officer was transported to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
