A fence was damaged Wednesday night after a garbage can full of discarded fireworks caught fire on Madison’s south side, officials said. Firefighters were sent just before 11 p.m. to the 400 block of Moorland Road for reports of a fire that damaged a garbage can and a nearby fence, according to a release. Firefighters met with a woman who extinguished the fire with a garden hose, officials said. The woman said there were people in the neighborhood lighting off fireworks earlier in the night, and when they were done the cartons were collected and put in the plastic garbage can.
