VIDEO: Unattended cooking was determined to be the cause of a house fire Wednesday in Fond du Lac. Just before 6 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue responded to the 700 block of Ellis Street for reports of smoke in a house, with no current fire, as well as a kitchen stove left on, according to a press release from Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue. Firefighters found “Severe damage” to the exhaust fan, stove and kitchen cabinets, as well as smoke on the first floor upon arrival. With the assurance the fire was extinguished, the residence was ventilated and firefighters “overhauled the kitchen,” determining that cooking left unattended was the cause of the fire, according to the release.
