Two fire departments in western Racine County are the first in the county to embrace a re-emerging firefighting technology — ultra high-pressure — into their operations. On March 12, the Rochester Fire Company took possession of an ultra-high-pressure pump and retrofitted its 2010 grass fire unit to carry it. Later that same month, the Waterford Fire Department put in service a brand new “Fast Attack Command Truck.” Fire Chief Rick Mueller said the unit is a dual-purpose unit that provides the department with a National Incident Management System compliant command vehicle, as well as an ultra-high-pressure pump that provides the ability to get water on a fire even before the arrival of a traditional fire engine.
