The Beaver Dam Fire Department is continuing to prepare to expand its footprint. The department is assembling an ad hoc committee to consider next steps for a new north side fire station and is also looking at a training center. Fire Chief Alan Mannel is also pushing for a referendum to try to get more funds for the department. “Everyone knows we need a north side station,” Mannel said. “Everyone knows.” The idea of a referendum came up earlier this year when Mannel expressed concerns over a proposed new 82-unit apartment complex near Kohl’s, 1734 N. Spring St., that will not include a sprinkler system. The Common Council approved rezoning for the project in May.
