A 27-year veteran of the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department has been named the new fire chief. Scott Young was appointed interim fire chief after former Fire Chief Dave Kerkman's retirement in September 2017. On Monday evening, the Wisconsin Rapids Police and Fire Commission made the interim appointment permanent when it named Young as the new fire chief, according to a news release from the commission. Young said in the release that he was "humbled and honored to be named the fire chief for Wisconsin Rapids. "It will be a privilege to serve in this capacity," Young said in the release. "I look forward to serving the community."
