"We were doing construction work and we hit a gas main," a caller told Dane County Dispatch on July 10 before an explosion that killed one firefighter and destroyed part of a downtown city block. That caller, whose name was redacted by Dane County Communications before release, made what police have said is the first call to report a problem before the explosion in Sun Prairie. The unnamed caller reported to officials that they were doing construction work when they hit the gas main near the corner of Main and Bristol streets. The 911 calls, including 29 calls that came after the explosion happened, were released Tuesday. "It's bad. It's bad," the caller told officials as they asked follow-up questions.
