VIDEO: The Madison Fire Department's Heavy Urban Response Team (HURT) was one of the 35 crews that responded to the explosion at Didion Milling in Cambria one year ago. HURT is a team of about 60 firefighters that are trained to rescue people in some of the most challenging situations. HURT Instructor Lieutenant Rick Mulhern said the team was formed following the 9/11 attacks, when federal money was allocated for teams trained to respond to emergencies like building collapses. The Madison HURT team was officially formed in 2007. A similar team with Madison Fire was trained in rope rescues. Mulhern said the HURT team has since built on those rescue skills.
