For more than a month, those seeking emergency services in the town of Lafayette have had about a five-minute detour between them and trained help. But those five minutes could drastically change the situation. “It’s been an impact,” John Andersen, deputy chief of prevention with the Chippewa Fire District, said. “We tell people a working fire doubles every two to three minutes, so we are concerned about that.” First responders and emergency response teams in Lafayette are having to detour around the bridge over Paint Creek in the township, after it was closed indefinitely during Mother’s Day weekend.
