VIDEO: Onalaska Fire Chief Don Dominick announced his plans to retire at the end of February. On Friday, after more than 40 years of fire service, including 10 years as chief, Dominick will hang up his helmet for the last time. From reminding the public about the dangers of carbon monoxide to leading crews in battling multi-unit apartment fires, Don Dominick has served the City of Onalaska as fire chief for nearly ten years. "When I got here, maybe I was like the father figure, if you will," Dominick said. "Now with the amount of time, we've got several firefighters that were hired first. They're the father figure. I think I'm kind of like the grandpa figure, but that's alright." When we first interviewed Chief Dominick ten years ago, it was the beauty of nature that he was excited about.
