VIDEO: Firefighters put their lives on the line every day, putting out fires and saving others. But once the fire is out, the danger does not end for firefighters. "Certainly the idea is to put the fire out, that is definitely dangerous," Battalion Chief Dan Mrochek of the Oshkosh Fire Department told Local Five. "But then cancer is a silent killer. Cancer rates among firefighters are ever-growing." In fact, the cancer rate for firefighters younger than 60-years-old was ten time higher in 2013 than it was in 2003. Experts believe that this is, in part, due to more plastic materials being used in households, that let off toxins when they burn.
