A man working inside an old boiler at a Near East Side power plant had to be rescued when the lift he was in stopped functioning, leaving him about five stories off the ground. The Madison Gas and Electric worker was lifted down by rope and harness about an hour after the emergency call came in to the Madison Fire Department. The rescue took place at the MGE plant at 717 E. Main St., starting shortly after 10 a.m. The unidentified worker was not injured. The man was on a sky lift inside a deactivated boiler when the lift stopped working.
