Small fires in brush and grass on the city's Far East Side kept Madison firefighters busy Sunday, but none of the fires got big enough to threaten structures. Nobody was injured in the fires reported at 11:40 a.m. in the 5600 block of Fen Oak Drive, the Madison Fire Department said. When firefighters arrived they found two separate areas burning, and areas where the fires could have extinguished by themselves. "Using flails (fire swatters) and brooms, Engine 5 firefighters extinguished the fires," said Bernadette Galvez. "A brush truck also was requested to respond."
