VIDEO: Calling 911 just got more expensive. Green Bay City Council members on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve an increase in the city's ambulance rescue fees. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department sought the fee hike to be able to collect more money in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements, but the move also will help the agency cover growing expenses, Fire Chief David Litton said. “We’re really just trying to keep up with costs,” Litton said. While property taxes principally pay for the department, it also charges fees on most ambulance calls. The fee for basic ambulance service will rise from $500 per call to $725 for residents and from $600 to $830 for those who live outside the city.
