A father and son died when silage collapsed on them while they worked inside a silo Saturday evening in Barron County. Daniel Briel, 51, and David Briel, 14, died on the scene of the incident at 671 17½ St., south of Barron. A third man who escaped the silage collapse called 911 at 7:49 p.m., according to the Barron County sheriff’s office. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to locate the two who were still trapped in the silo to guide efforts to extract them. After pulling the Briels out, emergency workers attempted life-saving efforts, but the two males were declared dead on the scene.
