VIDEO: Hundreds of Dane County homeowners are getting brand new smoke alarms for free. About 150 volunteers for the Red Cross and American Family Insurance are helping install and fix smoke detectors in people's homes. The goal is to install 700 alarms as part of a nationwide campaign to install 100,000 smoke alarms in just 16 days. Volunteers hope they can reduce the number of house fires in the county. "We all do things that we shouldn't do that increase the risk of fire and causes fires," Madison Fire Marshall Ed Ruckriegel said.
