Ongoing construction appears to be the cause of an Appleton house fire, crews say. Firefighters were called to a home in the 2000 block of N. Oneida St. Wednesday. A smoldering fire inside the wall near the front door of the home was extinguished. While the specific cause of the fire remains undetermined, crews believe it is construction related. Damage was limited to the front door area but smoke damage was found throughout the home. All residents were able to evacuate safely and no one was hurt. This fire marks the first red bulb of the holiday season for Appleton Fire's "Keep the Wreath Green" campaign. For every residential or commercial fire that occurs within the city between Nov. 20 and Dec. 31, a green bulb will be replaced with a red bulb on the station wreaths.
