Area law enforcement and firefighters raised over $50,000 at the Battle of the Badges: The Fight for Autism charity boxing event on Sept. 29 at Racine Case High School. The event is organized by Kenosha resident Jim Kelley of the Mount Pleasant Police Department. A check presentation was held on Nov. 17 at Buckets Pub, 2031 Lathrop Ave., in Racine. About 1,800 people attended this year’s fundraiser, according to Kelley. “We couldn’t have done this without the help of the boxers, volunteers, sponsors and our committee,” Kelley said. “Thank you to everyone involved, especially my wife Lisa (Kelley) who helps with everything. This event is special to both of us.” The Kelleys’ 12-year-old son Logan, a seventh-grader at Bullen Middle School, has autism.
