Scherrer Construction will oversee the planning and construction of a new firehouse under a contract approved Monday by the Wheatland Town Board. Town Board chairman William Glembocki said Scherrer is a local company and provided the lowest bid, coming in at 4.95 percent of what the total project cost will be. The contract was approved by Glembocki and supervisor Kelly Wilson. Supervisor Andy Lois was absent. “The plans have got to be functional for the fire department, and it has to be affordable for the people who are paying for it,” Glembocki said. Fire Chief Lou Denko said at the meeting he wasn’t asked to provide a recommendation, adding he felt both a little “upset” and “insulted” as a result.
