The Poynette-Dekorra-Lowville EMS District narrowly avoided the shuttering of its volunteer EMT program, thanks to an experienced firefighter and paramedic stepping forward to assume director duties. Amber Hahn, who has worked with the EMS District since 2012, and was a firefighter before then, volunteered to assume the reins of the district beginning Jan. 1. At that time, Hahn will sign her name to the state licence, a task current EMS Chief Carie Myers said she is uncomfortable performing, as it promises the state that 24/7 service is being provided. Hahn said the idea came about during an emotional meeting with EMS volunteers, and discussions with Myers. “It’s like I’m handing my baby off, but if anyone can pull this off, she can,” Myers said of Hahn. Poynette Fire Chief Jim Tomlinson said he, too, strongly believes in Hahn.
