A division chief with Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue was honored last week with state-level recognition.
Troy Haase was named Fire Inspector of the Year — a prestigious award delivered by the Wisconsin Fire Inspector's Association.
Fire Chief Peter O'Leary nominated Haase for the title for his work seeking code compliance throughout the city — including preventive measures and the need for working smoke alarms in homes — through public education.
"Troy has a vision for excellence in all aspects of fire prevention, which has reduced fire risk in our community," O'Leary said. Haase began his career in fire service in 1990 as a paid on-call employee for the Portage Fire Department, then added work as an EMT for a local ambulance service.
"I joined the department to help the community," Haase said. "My father had a landscape business where I worked and that allowed me to respond to calls 24/7."
