The Wheatland Town Board voted Monday to issue a 90-day notice to inform Silver Lake Rescue Squad of its intent to sever its contract with the service provider based on indications it will disband. “We need to be prepared ... for the demise of that organization,” Town Chairman William Glembocki said. “With all the reports we’ve gotten, it seems pretty soon Silver Lake will not have the funds to run anymore. Our main concern is our residents and making sure they have proper coverage.” Established in 1959, the Silver Lake Rescue Squad has provided service to residents in the Wheatland, Randall and Silver Lake area for decades. However, its primary service area became smaller when the village of Silver Lake contracted with Salem Fire and Rescue and ultimately merged with the town of Salem.
