A second driveway proposed by the Sauk City Fire Department could have an impact on the Great Sauk State Trail. The topic was on the agenda of the Oct. 24 Great Sauk State Trail Commission, where a representative from an architectural firm presented details. Ellery Schafer, of Jewell Associates Architects, said the department originally requested the driveway in conjunction with phase one trail planning, but was put off by the Department of Transportation. The plan was to start the project this fall, however Schafer said because permitting took much longer than anticipated, the department is hoping to do the project, which is estimated to cost $25,000, in the spring of 2019. The department will be responsible for the cost. The fire district currently brings vehicles in from Van Buren Street.
