Leaders in Waupun are lining up their wishes in the 2019 budget process. At the city’s special Common Council meeting on Tuesday, the various department heads gave presentations about their goals and initiatives for 2019 as they work to translate them into numbers. The numbers are not actually out yet. Officials will work through the month to put those together and present an actual proposed budget to the council on Sept. 25. A public hearing and vote will follow on Nov. 13. The fire department wants to look into a fire-based EMS system to help with ambulance access and cancer prevention for firefighters, such as installing a shower system so they can wash off contaminants, rather than take them home. The police department will evaluate and monitor the municipal court agreement with Beaver Dam, education and awareness programs, adding a half-time administrative position and working on drugs and mental health.
