The Coulee Region offers a lot of original geography. "You have the cliffs, the hills, the terrain," said Jeff Strasser, communications specialist for the Wisconsin Task Force-1 Urban Search and Rescue team. The breathtaking beauty of a scenic overlook can present challenges for emergency responders when someone needs to be rescued. Crews from USAR are challenging their skills. "It's a three-day exercise where we deploy the Wisconsin Task Force-1 Urban Search and Rescue Team," said Lt. Andrew Formanek, of the La Crosse Fire department and who is also a hazmat specialist for USAR. A total of 74 members, including 15 La Crosse firefighters, worked together to improve their knowledge.
