Acting on a recommendation from the Committee of the Whole, the Sun Prairie City Council on Sept. 18 approved the early purchase of a Rapid Attack Vehicle by the Sun Prairie Fire Department so it can guarantee 2018 pricing and be ready for next fall. The Rapid Attack Vehicle (RAV) will be one of three vehicles that will replace the department’s Squad 5, a heavy rescue vehicle. Sun Prairie Fire Chief Chris Garrison said the RAV is smaller, more maneuverable, and has a high-pressure water system that uses less water to put out fires. “This will be a new tool in our toolbox,” Garrison said, “It will more maneuverable, safer, and greener.” Garrison said replacing Squad 5 with three vehicles-the RAV, a truck with a plow, and a bureau car will save the city over $300,000.
