Spending $5.5 million to build a new, combined Town Hall and fire station is too expensive, Wheatland Town Chairman Bill Glembocki said at the recent Town Board meeting. “I was just in shock when we got (that) bid,” Glembocki said, encouraging officials and Fire Chief Lou Denko to consider some alternatives. The initial architectural plans call for a 25,168-square-foot building on the 4.74-acre, town-owned parcel where the existing fire station is located between Geneva Road and the transfer station. The fire station side would have seven bays and a wash bay, lockers, a specialized laundry area, a lounge, kitchen, four bedrooms, an exercise room, two offices and a training room.
