When the Town of Lake Fire Department was started in 1991, Firefighter Donald Mansfield was there. Jeff Olive was chief, and Mansfield was one of the founding members. At the end of November, after being with the department for all of its 27 years, Mansfield officially turned in his gear and retired. "Don is and will continue to be truly missed," declared current Town of Lake Fire Chief Craig Caylor. "He was always one of the first to respond to calls. At the station he would often get the trucks started and have routes mapped out before the other firefighters arrived." Once at the fire scene, Mansfield's main responsibility was that of directing traffic to keep the fire fighting crews safe, Chief Caylor said. Mansfield also was always one of the first firefighters to arrive at meetings, and then would help set up tables and then assist with signup paper work.
