At least 10 fire crews battled both heat and dangerous cold Wednesday morning for a fire on Madison’s far east side. Dane County dispatchers say the call came in just before 3 a.m. for a fire at a home in the 4800 block of Buckeye Road. Crews said the single-family house was fully engulfed. Neighbors noticed flames coming from the roof of a home. They were able to wake up the male resident and he was able to get out okay. Both cats in the home were also accounted for. A metro bus was on scene so firefighters could take turns warming up. Fire crews were extra bundled up this morning, but Chief Steven Davis said there is truly no way to stay completely warm in these conditions.
