Flash flooding wiped out a bridge on Cow Creek Road in Hurricane. Neighbors are most concerned about the added commute time for first responders during emergencies. What would usually be a 10 minute response is now a 20 to 25 minute response for the Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department. The crews are working with other fire departments in the area on mutual aid responses. The closest is the Winfield Fire Department. However, firefighters say, between road slipping and potholes, the condition of Hurricane Creek Road is not helping. The Hurricane Fire chief says the road issues are affecting response times for several departments.
