Berkeley County to hire 9 paid firefighters

Berkeley County will start interviewing potential candidates to fill nine paid firefighter slots approved in November. The Berkeley County Council on Nov. 8 approved a compensation plan for paid firefighters to be employed at each of the county’s five fire departments starting the first quarter of 2019. Berkeley County will begin screening candidates on Dec. 17. Candidates must submit an application and/or resume to the County Council office no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 14. Candidates hired will start work in February next year. A detailed recruitment announcement can be found at www.berkeleywv.org. Based on the plan, the county will hire two 40-hour firefighters to be paid $38,882 and seven 56-hour firefighters, who will earn $44,850 a year.
