A fire that heavily damaged a vacant house in Parkersburg Wednesday night is being investigated as arson. Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews says fire officials are working with Parkersburg Police detectives to find whoever is responsible for starting the fire at 809 Wood Street. Firefighters had the blaze under control within minutes of arriving at the scene about 9:25 p.m. They remained at the scene until about 11 p.m. Matthews says the building had no doors or working utilities and that the fire started near the main entrance. He says firefighters have been to the house before. He adds that he has been working with officials to get the property placed on the city's demolition list.
