In a fire time is crucial. Smoke and flames can make it very difficult for any fire fighter to see. But thanks to Thermal Imaging Cameras (TIC), that changes. "It allows us to not wait that long. We don't want firefighters suffering at thermal injuries," said Lieutenant Joey Baxa from the Buckhannon Fire Department.
The department uses these devices when battling a fire.
"This is a good tool we utilize whenever we're ready to send people to the interior of a structure fire," he said.
A video by the National Institute of Standards and Technology shows side by side comparisons of a structure fire. The fumes can be seen covering the home, making it hard to see.
