As the number of Hepatitis cases grow, the Kanwah County Emergency Ambulance Authority is working to protect its first responders. Thursday the Authority announced a two-day clinic with Hepatitis A vaccines for paramedics, firefighters and county employees. Ben Surface is just one of the dozens of Kanawha County paramedics running lifesaving calls every day. "We're the first line, we come in contact with this stuff, and we come in contact with a lot of individuals firsthand. We're putting our hands on these patients, so it's real important to keep clean so we're not spreading that around," Surface told 13 News. With the recent Hepatitis A outbreak, first responders are taking extra precautions washing their hands frequently and disinfecting their gear after each call.
