Heavy rains are wreaking havoc in Ridgeley as town crews and the Ridgeley Fire Company have been pumping lots of water.
Residents in the area between Martin Street and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church have been fighting water concerns, with one resident noting flooding five times since May.
In an effort to resolve these issues, the town is working to open and restore the natural waterway through the area, which has filled in over time.
“We are spending a lot of money on flood control. We’re going to have to do something,” said finance commissioner Butch Hawse.
Rain water has also been infiltrating the sewer system, resulting in higher costs. To remediate this water, the town is working on resurfacing the interior of the manholes.
