Randolph County Commissioners have approved a funding request for the 82nd Mountain State Forest Festival Elkins Volunteer Fire Department Fireman’s Parade. Randolph County Commission President Mike Taylor and Commissioner Mark Scott voted to make a contribution of $1,500 to the event — to be taken out of the hotel/motel tax budget line — which is set for 8 p.m. on Oct. 5. “It’s the 82nd Mountain State Forest Festival here in a couple weeks. The fire department is coming to the county commission to ask if you all would be willing to donate $1,500 toward the fireman’s parade this year,” Tyler Harris, Elkins Volunteer Fire Department firefighter, said. “The fireman’s parade is what the fire department puts on. It is not funded by the forest festival, it’s all put on by the fire department. That money would go toward feeding the 250-300 firefighters and for trophies and stuff of that nature.”
