A 46-year-old Fairmont man was charged with first-degree arson after he allegedly told deputies Jan. 6 he had set fire to his home, according to a criminal complaint. The complaint states that Chad Allen Moore of 2662 Colfax Rd. faces the felony offense. According to the court papers, deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department responded Jan. 6 to Moore’s home, where he was found walking down the road a short distance away. He was detained, and allegedly “freely” told the deputies that “he had set fire to his home because he was being held captive from intruders that ran out when he set the stairs on fire,” the complaint states. However, witnesses stated no one left the home when they encountered Moore. After the fire was put out, the home was checked for anyone still inside, and there was no one, the complaint states.
