St. Albans firefighters said they have seen an increase in requests for home inspection checks after a fire last week.
"They are my everything, I fight every day to keep them safe," Brian Pence of St. Albans said.
Pence said he's protective of his 4 and 2-year-old daughters., but little did he know he was jeopardizing his daughters lives every day with a smoke alarm that was not working correctly.
"You do everything you can to protect your kids and to find out equipment in your house you thought was working isn't, it makes you wonder," Pence said.
