Busy morning for firefighters in New Castle County
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a pair of house fires on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2024, in New Castle County. The first fire was reported on Frazier Place in Collins Park just after 5 a.m. Arriving units reported flames from the front of the house. No injuries were reported in that incident. Then around 7:15 a.m. a fire was reported on Augusta Drive in Chestnut Hill Estates near Ogletown with the possibility of a person trapped. New Castle County police officers were first on scene with two victims already outside the house. They said an officer went inside to make sure the first floor was clear. Aetna firefighters then arrived with mutual aid companies to fight a basement fire. New Castle County paramedics treated a 71-year old man and a 66-year old woman for smoke inhalation before they were taken to Christiana Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Update: Two 14-year-olds arrested for their role in Newark Acme grocery store fire; damages over $250K
Two 14-year-olds were arrested in connection with a fire that started inside an Acme grocery store in Newark, Delaware, Sunday night. The 14-year-olds were arraigned by family court and released to their families on bail amounts of $9,000 and $5,000, the Delaware State Fire Marshal said in a news release. The Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company of Newark responded to the fire at the Acme grocery store inside the Grove Shopping Center on the 100 block of Grove Lane just before 11 p.m. Sunday. Delaware fire officials said the Acme was covered in smoke and a fire was blazing inside that was temporarily contained by the grocery store's sprinkler system until authorities arrived. No one was injured in the fire, officials said. However, the grocery store sustained major damage from the fire and smoke.
