Columbus Fire Department Announces New Fire Inspector






Columbus Fire Chief Andy Lay announces that Firefighter Troy Todd has been promoted to Administrative Captain, and will serve as Fire Inspector in the Columbus Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau.  Troy Todd, a seventeen year department veteran, has been  promoted following the retirement of Fire Inspector Matt Noblitt, who retired in January of 2020. Todd officially join the Fire Prevention Bureau on March 24, 2020.

Chief Andy Lay said that Todd was selected from a list of fire department candidates who submitted a resume’ and underwent an interview with the executive board of Chiefs. “Through Troy’s focus on inter-departmental training, and his desire to seek educational opportunities from outside public safety agencies, Troy has shown he is dedicated toward improving community risk reduction through the work of code enforcement, inspections and fire investigations,” Chief Lay said.

Currently, the Columbus Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau operates with two fire inspectors. Inspector Scott Bonnell has worked in the Fire Prevention Bureau since 2015.  In addition to the inspection of all public and commercial buildings in the city, Columbus Fire Department Inspectors also serve as fire investigators, and serve as members of the Bartholomew County Fire Investigation Team.

Inspector Todd’s certifications include: Fire Inspector I & II, Aircraft Rescue Firefighter, Basic Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Officer Strategies and Tactics, Hazardous Materials Technician, Confined Rescue Technician, Rope Rescue Technician and Vehicle & Machinery Extrication Technician.
