Oregon State Fire Marshal

The mission of the Office of State Fire Marshal is "To protect citizens, their property, and the environment from fire and hazardous materials." The Fire and Life Safety Services Branch is mandated by law to perform duties to enhance fire and life safety for the citizens of Oregon. The branch directs and coordinates fire investigations, fire and life safety inspections, institutional occupancy fire prevention; and code enforcement and consultation functions concerning the adequate egress from all public buildings to assure the protection of all places where large numbers of persons work, live or congregate. The branch is responsible for ensuring compliance with state fire protection statutes by reviewing, analyzing and recommending the Oregon adoption of and modifications to the International Fire Code and the Oregon structural specialty, one- and two-family dwelling, and mechanical codes. The Branch also conducts inspections and plans review for CMS funded medical facilities. The branch works closely with DHS and OHA to ensure the mandates of the CMS program are achieved. . The Fire and Life Safety Services Branch has 24 employees.
