The City of South Lake Tahoe is seeking a strong and committed Fire Chief who will provide exceptional management of the Fire Department.

THE POSITION
The Fire Chief is considered a Department Director with responsibility for directing the activities of a Department within the City. Positions at this class level serve as a member of the City Manager's Senior Management team and provide advice and counsel to the City Manager regarding strategic policy and problem solving issues relating to the assigned Department and the City overall. The Fire Chief serves as the City’s Fire Marshall as well as Emergency Manager of the City’s Emergency Operations Center.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Fire department provides all risk emergency and nonemergency services including fire protection, emergency medical services, limited fire prevention, and public education. Today the department maintains three fire stations (two are staffed with firefighter personnel) and a training center. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue personnel and equipment respond to over 3500 emergency calls each year.

The Department has two stations and is working on a plan to re-open a third station.

The department has 30 employees working three operational shifts consisting of a 48/96 hour schedule. Each shift includes a Battalion Chief, 2 Captains, 2 Engineers and 4 Firefighters/Paramedics.

THE COMPENSATION
Total Cash Compensation of $166,328 – $191,396 includes salary of $116,328 - $141,396 plus up to $50,000 deferred compensation. The City also offers an attractive benefits package, including: vacation, sick leave, holidays, medical plan, life insurance and disability insurance. The City offers a City sponsored health insurance plan employee plus family (Blue Shield PPO 750) including dental and vision insurance.
