The City of Anaheim, California is seeking an experienced visionary leader to serve as its next Fire Chief. This is an extraordinary opportunity to lead and chart the future of one the country’s most prestigious fire and rescue departments. The Anaheim Fire and Rescue Department is an all-risk emergency response organization serving a diverse community of 350,000 residents and 40 million visitors a year. The newly selected Fire Chief will assume command of an ISO rated “Class 1” organization with a proud history of providing high quality service. In addition to providing oversight and leadership for the day-to-day operational activities of a progressive and complex organization, he/she will also serve as the top technical advisor to the City on fire, disaster management, and EMS issues. The next Fire Chief will be a forward-thinking leader who collaboratively engages the workforce and community to develop and implement a strategic vision that will not only chart the course for the future of Anaheim, but also ensure the continuation of high quality professional public safety services on a daily basis. This position requires significant and progressively responsible executive fire command experience in a mid- to large size, complex fire department in an urban area. Ten years of increasingly responsible fire service experience, including three years of management and administrative responsibility, supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in fire administration, fire science, public administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree would be considered a plus. Additional administrative management work experience may be substituted to meet the education requirement on a year-to-year basis. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is also qualifying.

 

The salary range is $168,841 – $247,261 including CalPERS retirement. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by May 6, 2019.
