The Fire Chief is an executive management position working under the general direction of the City Manager. The Fire Chief establishes the department’s strategic direction and develops and administers policies and procedures to ensure that firefighting, fire prevention, emergency medical services (EMS), and emergency management programs and other related public safety services are appropriate for the community. The Fire Chief is accountable for accomplishing departmental planning and operational goals and objectives and for supporting and furthering the city’s mission, goals, and objectives within general policy guidelines. The position requires a high degree of independent judgment and administrative discretion. The Fire Chief is an appointed “at-will” position and has no board of appeal rights.
