We are accepting applications for the position of Fire Prevention Specialist. The Fire Prevention Specialist is an important position within the Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Division. This position works under general supervision and performs technical and specialized inspections and investigative work in fire prevention. The Fire Prevention Specialist also reviews and approves construction plans and specifications and conducts fire prevention inspections. This is a civilian, non-safety position.
The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated 1) ability to apply codes and standards to perform fire construction inspections and possess applicable certifications, 2) proficiency in reviewing plans for compliance with codes and standards, 3) desire and commitment to continually improve in serving the community as a member of the Fire Department and City team, and 4) ability to balance workload and time commitments among competing priorities.
Salary and Benefits
The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefits! Salary: $32.56 - $39.58 Hourly DOQ.
Qualifications
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related field and two years' experience performing fire protection engineering duties, including responsibility for plan checking or field inspection of fire protection systems or graduation from college with an associate's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field and five years' experience performing fire protection engineering duties, including responsibility for plan checking or field inspection of fire protection systems.
License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License and an acceptable driving record is required.
Certificates: Certificate of completion of PC 832 is highly desirable prior to appointment and is required within one year of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year, an International Code Council Fire Inspector certification.
